NGC

💡 Through a backyard telescope, we chased NGC galaxies, comparing sketches with atlas plates and learning patience under imperfect suburban skies.

💡 The discovery of NGC 7318b smashing through Stephan's Quintet was observed by a team of more than 60 astronomers and has been published today in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society

💡 Astrophotographers debated whether NGC 253 or M33 makes a better beginner target, weighing surface brightness, framing options, and light-pollution resilience.

💡 This image features the California Nebula - also known as NGC 1499 - an emission nebula in the constellation of Perseus.

💡 Cataloging NGC objects requires tidy records, because mislabels propagate across forums, software, and engraved plaques mounted beside observatory images.

💡 The Young Astronomy Photographer of the Year award was won by Daniel Borsari for his image "NGC NGC 1499, A Dusty California".
